Meet your teacher....

Melisa Casses

Director of Yoga Teacher Training
E-RYT 500 Yoga Alliance
RYS-200 Yoga Alliance, Yoga for Health & Fitness

Melisa Uchida Casses has been teaching yoga and healthy living for nearly two decades. Her lineage is from the Ashtanga tradition. She loves the focus and discipline required in Ashtanga. But decades of practice, three children, injuries and just plain old aging, led her to create various sequences to meet different stages in life. Yoga asanas are not one-size fits all. As a teacher, she constantly observes, evaluates and adapts asanas and sequences to determine what is appropriate for her students on any given day.

Her sequences are inspired by Pattabhi Jois, DKV Desikachar, Matthew Sweeney and others. She is strict, yet approachable and makes learning fun. Expect challenging, yet accessible classes. She gracefully weaves traditional and contemporary approaches to hatha yoga.

Melisa created the MaKa Movement yoga teacher training program to provide quality teacher trainings in an industry where learning is often diluted. Small class size, superb curriculum and Melisa’s experience make these courses the best available.

200 and 300-hour courses are certified by the Yoga Alliance. Limit 12 participants.

Melisa has a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Hawaii Pacific University. She is author of YOGA: A Comprehensive Guide for Teachers and Practitioners. Her articles appear in Bare Essentials-Australia, Towson Patch, Oahu Island News, MidWeek and otherprint and online publications. Melisa lives in Towson with her husband and three children.

Our Next Training: 300 HOUR YTT

Starts Fall 2017

You have your 200 hour training and you know the basics and can deliver an effective yoga class. But maybe you are feeling stale, or you feel ready to learn more, practice more, fine-tune your skills and take your teaching to the next level. Become a leader and an inspiration through your teaching. In MaKa's small group format, you will be able to connect with fellow teachers, learn in a supportive setting, receive one-on-one mentorship with Melisa Casses. Students will create their own workshops, refine cueing for clarity and efficiency and be able to teach any body. It's time to define who you are as a yoga teacher and shine.

This is also a way to give yourself time on your mat, to be a student, remember why you fell in love with yoga, explore the wide world of vinyasa and be a part of a community. Delve deeper into the philosophy of yoga to gain rich understanding of the ideas you learned about in your 200-hour training with in-depth study, reflection and writing.

What Others Are Saying...

"My experience with Maka was intense, challenging, and emotional. However, I would not have changed a thing about it! Melisa pushed me beyond my comfort zone, and towards my inner spirit. She created a comfortable space for all to learn, share, and contemplate. What started as a great opportunity to study, evolved into a powerful exploration of yoga-inspired philosophy. I bonded with the passionate, like-minded people sitting beside me on the mat and made lifelong friends. This program provided the foundations of how to teach yoga, and taught me more than I thought possible marking the beginning of a life-long journey."
Susan S.

Whether you are looking do become a full time yoga teacher or simply deepen your own practice this is the training for you! Melisa's approach to training is simple and effective. Her passion for yoga is obvious, and she truly cares about the students experience! I finished training with a knowledge of yoga that has opened my eyes to true nature of the practice, one I was unaware of when I started!!

Billy D.

"This was truly an exceptional experience. The teacher, possesses a depth of knowledge, level of skill and thoroughness of teaching yoga that is incredible. Ashtanga yoga’s primary series was taught. It was a true immersion with, the readings, discussions, presentations and classes. We were given a 360 degree view of yoga. The histories, it’s roots, the different styles, the philosophy and the many possibilities needed to be a yoga teacher as well as a student. If you’re interested in further learning and growing as a yogi, this would be The perfect teacher." Lloyd K.
