Melisa uchida casses

Melisa Uchida Casses, E-RYT-500, has been teaching yoga and healthy living for nearly two decades. Her lineage is from the Ashtanga tradition. She loves the focus and discipline required in Ashtanga. But decades of practice, three children, injuries and just plain old aging, led her to create various sequences to meet different stages in life. Yoga asanas are not one-size fits all. As a teacher, she constantly observes, evaluates and adapts asanas and sequences to determine what is appropriate for her students on any given day. 

Her sequences are inspired by Pattabhi Jois, DKV Desikachar, Matthew Sweeney and others.

She is strict, yet approachable and makes learning fun. Expect challenging, yet accessible classes. She gracefully weaves traditional and contemporary approaches to hatha yoga.

Melisa created the MaKa Movement yoga teacher training program to provide quality teacher trainings in an industry where learning is often diluted. Small class size, superb curriculum and Melisa’s experience make these courses the best available. 

200 and 300-hour courses are certified by the Yoga Alliance.

Melisa has a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University and Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Hawaii Pacific University. She is author of YOGA: A Comprehensive Guide for Teachers and Practitioners. Her articles appear in Bare Essentials-Australia, Towson Patch, Oahu Island News, MidWeek and otherprint and online publications. Melisa lives in Towson with her husband and three children.

200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Do you love the feeling of bliss after your practice? Do you want to learn more about the history, philosophy, art and science of yoga? Deepen your practice, increase your strength, flexibility and learn how to teach what you love. Learn the benefits of yoga, the history and philosophy, alignment, sequencing, finding your voice, connect with your highest self and discover your path. You will not only get physically stronger, but you will gain mental clarity, balance and awareness, and if you are willing, yoga will transform your life. 


Students will learn a modified Ashtanga Primary Series sequence as the foundation for home practices and then learn to create their own class sequences to practice and teach. Learn what modifications are right for your body, how to tailor any class to fit your needs and how to teach beginner and intermediate students. We know everyone's bodies are unique and special and MaKa instructors are taught to honor those differences. This course will prepare you to teach Vinyasa Yoga classes. 


So, whether you want to teach or not, work on your personal practice, learn alignment, gain deeper insight to yourself, yoga philosophy, or find out what gives you that amazing feeling after you've been on your mat, this course provides students with guidance, encouragement, support and lots of fun! Get ready to change your life! Be a part of an elite teacher training program. 


Class sizes are small to provide students with lots of attention and guidance and to maximize learning. Once training and requirements are completed, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and eligible to apply with Yoga Alliance as an RYT-200. Lead trainer, Melisa Deane Casses, E-RYT has more than 15 years of teaching experience. She believes yoga should be accessible to every body, and that yoga is a way to feed the body and soul. Get ready to begin a new journey! 



Consistent yoga practice for a minimum of one year and strong desire to learn, 100% commitment and willingness to be open. Participants meet for six weekend intensives. Students are required to practice a minimum of four times per week. Home practices are acceptable and encouraged. Expect approximately 5-hours/week of homework.

Additional hours for Reiki level 1&2. Date and time TBD
